John Dewan left his highly successful career as an actuary to become one of the founders, majority owner, and CEO of STATS, Inc. Because, as he says, “Sports numbers are much more fun than insurance numbers.” Dewan sold STATS to Ruppert Murdoch in 1999. He is now the owner of Baseball Info Solutions, which has developed the most in-depth database of detailed baseball information in the industry. The third volume of his highly acclaimed Fielding Bible series, focusing on defensive analytics, is hot off the presses, available in bookstores and websites now.

Jeff Spoljaric

A graduate of Clarion Univ. of PA with degrees in both Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Jeff has been an IT professional for over 10 years and has been with BIS for over 5. He is currently in his third season at the helm of the BIS IT department. During his tenure, BIS has seen a tremendous increase in the efficiency and customization of our data collection and dissemination processes. In his free time Jeff is an avid golfer.

Ben Jedlovec

Ben is responsible for setting the analytics direction of the company, assuring that Baseball Info Solutions customers receive the most cutting-edge research and analysis. After joining the company in 2008, Ben worked in the Research & Development department for over three years, collaborating on Stat of the Week, The Fielding Bible—Volume II, the Bill James Handbook Projections, and various other products for BIS clients and the public. He also co-authored The Fielding Bible—Volume III with BIS owner John Dewan and frequently contributes to ESPN Insider. Prior to joining BIS, he interned with the Houston Astros, Huntsville Stars (Double-A Southern League), and the Rice University baseball team. A Huntsville, AL native, Ben studied Statistics and Sport Management at Rice University in Houston.

Since 1975, Bill James has been writing about baseball and compiling reference books about baseball. His progressive baseball analysis has earned him broad respect of the baseball community. He is currently the Senior Baseball Operations Advisor for the Boston Red Sox.

With more than 18 years of experience in the sports licensing business with a focus on sales and business development, Jim is an expert in sports content licensing. His innovative and fair-minded approach to business development, sales and licensing generates a positive outcome for all parties.
Prior to joining BIS in 2009, Jim built STATS, Inc. from relative obscurity into the company it is today through an open-minded, curious approach to the marketplace and the ability to observe, learn and deliver value-added content and related services. Under his leadership, company sales grew by more than 24 times during his 15 years at STATS. One of his breakthroughs was the introduction of real-time and contextually-correct statistics into the video game space, something that is almost universal today.
