John Dewan

Owner and Chairman

John Dewan

John Dewan left his highly successful career as an actuary to become one of the founders, majority owner, and CEO of STATS, Inc. Because, as he says, “Sports numbers are much more fun than insurance numbers.” Dewan sold STATS to Ruppert Murdoch in 1999. He is now the owner of Baseball Info Solutions, which has developed the most in-depth database of detailed baseball information in the industry. The third volume of his highly acclaimed Fielding Bible series, focusing on defensive analytics, is hot off the presses, available in bookstores and websites now.

Ben Jedlovec

President

Ben Jedlovec

As President, Ben is responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations as well as maintaining its position as the leader in the baseball data and analytics industry.

After joining the company in 2008, Ben worked in the Research & Development department for over three years, collaborating on Stat of the Week, The Fielding Bible—Volume II, the Bill James Handbook Projections, and various other products for BIS clients and the public. He also co-authored The Fielding Bible—Volume III and The Fielding Bible—Volume IV with John Dewan and has contributed to ESPN Insider and The Hardball Times Baseball Annual. In 2012, he was promoted to Vice President—Product Development & Sales, where he was responsible for setting the analytics direction of the company and assuring that Baseball Info Solutions customers receive the most cutting-edge research and analysis.

Prior to joining BIS, he interned with the Houston Astros, Huntsville Stars (formerly of the Double-A Southern League), and the Rice University baseball team. A Huntsville, AL native, Ben studied Statistics and Sport Management at Rice University in Houston. He lives in nearby Northampton with his wife, Amy, and daughter, Juliet.

Bill James

Since 1975, Bill James has been writing about baseball and compiling reference books about baseball. His progressive baseball analysis has earned him broad respect of the baseball community. He is currently the Senior Baseball Operations Advisor for the Boston Red Sox.

Jim Capuano

Director of Business Development

Jim Capuano

With more than 18 years of experience in the sports licensing business with a focus on sales and business development, Jim is an expert in sports content licensing. His innovative and fair-minded approach to business development, sales and licensing generates a positive outcome for all parties.

Prior to joining BIS in 2009, Jim built STATS, Inc. from relative obscurity into the company it is today through an open-minded, curious approach to the marketplace and the ability to observe, learn and deliver value-added content and related services. Under his leadership, company sales grew by more than 24 times during his 15 years at STATS. One of his breakthroughs was the introduction of real-time and contextually-correct statistics into the video game space, something that is almost universal today.

Information Technology

Rob Dougherty

Director of IT

Rob Dougherty

Rob brings a wealth of sports content industry experience to BIS, having worked for over 15 years in the industry. Rob directs the IT department and interfaces with BIS clients. He earned his undergraduate degree from DeSales University in politics/prelaw and did his graduate work at Temple University in business administration and journalism, as well as possessing a multitude of technical certificates and is a certified tax preparer. He has created many innovative B2B web- and feed-based products, including North America’s first real-time B2B sports animation gamecast. He is also an avid photographer and writer with hundreds of syndicated creative works to his credit.

Patrick Coyle

Patrick Coyle

Patrick brings 8 years of programming and IT experience to the BIS team performing a diverse range of IT tasks from network administration to software development.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in Data Communications from Penn State.

Greg Thomas

Greg Thomas

Greg works in IT where he has 8 years of experience as a programmer/analyst of various languages and applications, while focusing on data and reporting. He graduated from the college of IST at Penn State University, and is the proud owner of a golden retriever named after a recent NL MVP.

Ben Stanczak

Ben Stanczak

Ben is a recent graduate of the University of Windsor, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and was a two-time Pitcher of the Year for the Windsor Lancers, winning a CIBA national championship in 2013. He has 2 years of experience in the areas of software development and IT, and this is his first job in the baseball industry. When not in the office or on the diamond, he can be found at the nearest movie theater.

Scott Spratt

Scott Spratt

Scott works in Research and Development where he helps with Stat of the Week, ESPN Insider articles, and other projects that show off the data BIS collects. In his spare time, he writes about baseball, football, and fantasy sports for various publications. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2008.

Joe Rosales

R&D Analyst

Joe Rosales

Joe contributes to the innovative research and analytics work done at BIS through his role in Research and Development. He has experience working for three MLB clubs, having interned in Baseball Operations for the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Mets prior to joining BIS. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University, where he studied Civil Engineering, and made his transition into the baseball industry after completing the dual degree MBA/M.S. in Sports Management program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jon Vrecsics

Director of Minor League Operations

Jon Vrecsics

Jon is primarily responsible for the minor league data collection operation which includes hiring, training and scheduling people to work games at the sixty AA and AAA cities. He is an expert on the software used to input pitch by pitch data recorded during game scoring. He spent much of the last two seasons "fixing" errors in files submitted by the several hundred scorers working the various MiLB contests for BIS.

Todd Radcliffe

Todd Radcliffe

Todd oversees the pitch charting operation as well as performing data quality control. Todd brings 18 years of Major League Baseball scouting experience to BIS.

Jim Swavely

Operations Analyst

Jim Swavely

Jim helps out with minor league scoring issues. He is a longtime men's amateur baseball umpire and is the person to ask about rules and official scoring interpretations. He has degrees in Chemical Engineering and Computer Science.

Dan Casey

Operations Analyst

Dan Casey

Dan works on the MLB side of the data collection operation at BIS.  His responsibilities include the hiring, training and supervision of the BIS video scouts, as well as quality control of data throughout the season.  

Before coming to BIS, he worked for the New York Yankees in Tampa, FL. While there, Dan spent time in several departments, including baseball operations, player development and marketing.  He also moonlighted as the official scorekeeper for the Yankees' Single-A affiliate in Tampa.  

Dan is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he studied Economics and Spanish.

Kevin Morrissey

Kevin Morrissey

Kevin is a graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania where he earned a degree in Economics. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he received his JD. After working in various legal positions, he transitioned to baseball as an intern at BIS and later a player development intern with the New York Yankees in Tampa, FL. Kevin works with all aspects of data collection and quality control.

Tim Kwilos

Tim Kwilos

Tim leads the Minor League Operation, along with assisting in other areas of data collection and quality control. He is a graduate from Swarthmore College with a double major in Economics and Psychology, where he also worked in the Athletic Department and as a Research Assistant for the Econ Department. 4 year member of the baseball team at Swarthmore and left as part of the winningest class in program history.

Dan Foehrenbach

Dan Foehrenbach

Dan helps out mostly on the Major League side assuring accurate data collection. In 2014, he finished two internships within BIS as a Video Scout and a Research & Development analyst. He helped out in completing The Fielding Bible—Volume IV and continues to help out whenever called upon. He received a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Rochester Institute of Technology.

James Mehall

James Mehall

James brings a lot of baseball experience to BIS. Prior to joining BIS as a Video Scout in 2014, he played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, coached high school and collegiate summer ball, and worked for Ripken Baseball, ERA Sports, Inc., and Elite Sports Academy. James graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management.

Nathan Phares

Nathan Phares

Nathan is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO where he earned a degree in Sports Management. Prior to BIS, he interned with three professional teams in Illinois, West Virginia, and Ohio before becoming a video scout in 2014. Nathan is a native of Normal, Illinois and is a devoted Cubs fan.

Carol Olsen

Office Manager and Human Resources Assistant

Carol Olsen

Carol brings over 15 years Secretarial and Human Resource experience to BIS. She assists the BIS team in managing the day to day office administrative duties, ranging from answering phones and ordering supplies, to assisting with the influx of video scouts hired each baseball season. When not working she enjoys cooking and entertaining friends and family!
